A car thief would surely have a heck of a time if he couldn’t find a way to open your car door. But every car comes with a door handle (or two or four); it’s as plain as the… well, you get the idea. Shaved door handles are not uncommon to the crowd that likes to “pimp” their ride, but they’re pretty unusual to the rest of the world.
To “shave” your door handle, you simply remove it. The depression is covered with a piece of new metal which is welded in place, then sanded down and finally repainted to match the rest of the car. What you are left with is a slick, smooth, aerodynamically finished car, with a shaved door handle.
“So, how do you get in the car then, smarty pants?” you’re probably wondering. Well, on the inside of the car you’ll have installed a “popper” that is activated by a remote key chain. When triggered, the popper opens the door for you - an excellent feature when your arms are bogged down with groceries or children!
This can be a DIY type of job if you’ve got some skill (and a sense of esthetics) because you can buy shaved door handle kits online or in some auto parts stores. If you’d rather not tackle it yourself, it’s a simple, relatively inexpensive, job for a professional body shop. Just remember, once you start cutting your car apart, you’re committed, for better or for worse.
