Perhaps you’ve never been accused of doing it (or perhaps you’ve just never been caught, hmmm?) but a great many people are guilty of checking their email messages on their cell phone or Blackberry while they’re driving. Obviously, that’s not a safe or smart thing to do, but the temptation of just knowing is often too great to resist. We all agree that the safest thing to do is to just pull off the road before we pull out our gadgets. Well, that’s in an ideal world, and this, unfortunately, is not an ideal world.

But there is a solution, and that is to have someone read your emails to you. You’re probably thinking that that might be kind of awkward, especially if the email topic is one that you prefer to keep to yourself - along the lines of “You’re fired!” or “Your checking account is overdrawn” or “A warrant has been sworn out for your arrest.” But if that someone who’s doing the reading isn’t human, it would be alright, wouldn’t it?

A simple hands-free device called the iLane will connect to your smartphone device and let you do all of the things that you would normally do (if you weren’t busy driving, that is) including reading (hearing) your emails, as well as replying to them or composing new ones or deleting old ones. All by voice command. It’s still not an ideal solution, because there is always the risk that you’ll be distracted, but it comes pretty darn close.
